POST/v1/api/tavily/search

AI-optimized web search. Returns ranked results with extracted page content — no separate scrape step needed. Supports depth control, topic filtering, time range, and optional LLM-generated answer.

Request body

Call this sync operation at its vendor-qualified URL. The model identity is encoded in the path; only operation-specific input fields belong in the request body.

The search query.

Optional<string>search_depth

Depth of search. 'advanced' returns more comprehensive results.

Allowed values: basic, advanced

Default: basic

Optional<integer>max_results

Maximum number of results to return.

Range: 1 to 20

Default: 5

Optional<string>topic

Topic category to focus the search.

Allowed values: general, news, finance

Default: general

Optional<boolean>include_answer

Include an LLM-generated answer summarizing the results.

Default: false

Optional<boolean>include_raw_content

Include the full raw page content for each result.

Default: false

Optional<array<string>>include_domains

Only include results from these domains.

Optional<array<string>>exclude_domains

Exclude results from these domains.

Response Schema

A synchronous completed response contains exactly one outputs item with only data. Failed and timeout responses contain error and never outputs.

Allowed values: pending, running, completed, failed, timeout

Public SandBase model name used for this run.

Present only for completed runs. Contains exactly one item whose only field is data.

Operation-specific business payload. This reference uses an empty object when no safe example can be confirmed.

Present only for failed or timeout runs. Contains a public error type and sanitized message.

Stable public error category.

Sanitized error message safe to show to clients.
