Sunset Street: a Walkable Street Game Baked from a Blender Film

Turn a Blender street film into a game you can walk through in the browser: the film camera pans along a 2.5D street lit by baked lightmaps, with four chapters through dusk, night, storm and snow, neighbours to talk to, shops to look into, a cat on the roofs, photo check-ins with stamps and stories you can drop in as JSON. English and Chinese UI, touch on a phone.

Sunset Street: a Walkable Street Game Baked from a Blender Film

Bring a street (the example street, or your own Blender scene baked with film-street-bake) and optionally a story: people, lines per weather, errands and chapters. The Skill returns five downloadable Skills (the game, stories, baking, the film look, actors), a playable example and every asset of the example street to remix.

How it works

  1. Your agent writes the story as one street-story/1 JSON file with film-street-story: names, lines per weather, items and chapters. Its validator checks every reference and a solver plays it to the end in both languages.

  2. The game lights each surface as albedo × a baked lightmap per state and crossfades states live, adding rain, snow, wet reflections and lightning on top, so a weather change is a blend of two bakes instead of a re-render.

  3. The hosted build is played headlessly in the same sandbox as here: walking, talking, a shop interior, all chapters through four weathers, photo, stamps, album, a story from a URL, the Chinese UI and a phone.

Frequently asked questions

Does it call a model or need a key?

Playing needs neither: the game makes no model calls. The Skills use SandBase only when you generate new assets (signs, characters) for your own street.

Why is the demo sandboxed?

The frame has an opaque origin, so the game can’t read anything from this page. Its policy lets it fetch only its own files under /lab/api/demos/film-street/files/, nothing else on the internet.

Can I use the street in my own work?

Yes, commercially too. The terms are in LICENSE.md inside the packs.

How do I write my own story?

Use film-street-story: describe the plot to your agent, it writes story.json, validates it and auto-plays it. Drag the file onto the game, or host it and open the game with ?story=<url>.

Can I bake my own street?

Yes: film-street-bake takes a Blender scene with a fixed film camera and writes the geometry, albedo, per-state lightmaps and walk grid the game reads. Baking runs locally in Blender; expect tens of minutes per state on a laptop GPU.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes: on-screen arrows and an action button. Verified under touch emulation, not on real devices. It downloads about 27 MB first, so prefer Wi-Fi.

Why is there no online generation?

Building a new scene needs a model key inside the sandbox, which the backend doesn’t support yet. Run the Skill with your own agent for now.
